Yamato Japanese comprise approximately 96-98% of the Japanese resident population — the dominant ethnic Japanese population descended from the dual-source admixture of the older Jōmon-era hunter-gatherer foundation (~38,000-3,000 BCE; descended from a Late Pleistocene East Asian/Northeast Asian source population that migrated into the Japanese archipelago during the last glacial maximum and adapted to the maritime Holocene environment) and the Yayoi-era farming migration (~1000 BCE-300 CE) from the Korean Peninsula and continental East Asia.
