About Buryat People

The Buryat are a Mongolic ethnic group of the broader Northeast Asian Mongol family — approximately 45,000+ Mongolian-resident Buryats per the 2020 Mongolian Census, plus the substantially larger Russian-resident Buryat population of approximately 461,000 (concentrated primarily in the Republic of Buryatia plus the Ust-Orda Buryat Okrug and Aginskoye Buryat Okrug — the population was approximately 50% of the Republic of Buryatia population in the early 20th c. but has been demographically reduced by Russian-Soviet migration). Buryat-language is part of the Mongolic family, distinct from Khalkha Mongolian. Mongolian-resident Buryats are concentrated in northern Mongolia (Khentii, Selenge, Dornod provinces) along the Russian border.

Typical Buryat Phenotypes

Reference for AI generation — hair, eyes, skin, facial structure, build

Phenotype distribution closely matches broader Northeast Asian Mongol source populations — Fitzpatrick III-IV skin tone, uniformly straight black hair, characteristic Mongol features. Buryat populations show subtle population-level differences from Khalkha Mongol populations consistent with the geographically distinct northern-Mongolian/Russian-Far-East source-population history.
