About Secwépemc People
The Secwépemc are the people of Secwepemcúl'ecw, some 180,000 square kilometers of the south-central British Columbia interior: the Fraser and Thompson river systems, the lakes around Kamloops and Shuswap, dry grassland benches in the south, and the wet timber of the Cariboo and the western slope of the Rockies to the north. English renders the name Shuswap, which is the ethnonym pushed through an English mouth.
