That war wore the region down, and the Oromo migrations that followed redrew the map of the eastern highlands. The Harla did not come through that period as a separate people.
Their legacy is scattered but real. Harari tradition counts the Harla as forebears, and Harla lineages still appear among Somali and Afar clans. The stone remains in the fields of eastern Ethiopia kept their name alive long before archaeologists came to test the story.
