About Ogaden People

Somalia's 1977 invasion of Ethiopia, still known as the Ogaden War, ended in defeat and a flood of refugees. The Ogaden National Liberation Front, founded in 1984, fought a long insurgency against the government in Addis Ababa. Its 2007 attack on a Chinese-run oil exploration site at Abole brought a harsh military response across the region. The front signed a peace agreement in 2018 and came home as a political party. In southern Somalia, Jubaland state has had an Ogaden president since 2013.
