About Kachin People

Kachin / Jingpho populations comprise approximately 1.5% of the Myanmar population — concentrated in Kachin State in northern Myanmar. Sino-Tibetan / Tibeto-Burman language family. Predominantly Christian (Baptist) with smaller traditional / animist sub-populations. Long-running Kachin separatist conflict — the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) maintained ceasefire 1994-2011 and resumed armed conflict 2011-present. Cross-border population shared with Yunnan, China (the Jingpo of Yunnan).
