Dai
Southern Yunnan, China, chiefly Xishuangbanna and Dehong prefectures and the Red River valley, with closely related Tai peoples across the borders in Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand
Tai Daeng
Northeastern Laos, especially Houaphanh province; the uplands of Thanh Hóa and neighboring provinces in north-central Vietnam; smaller communities in Thailand.
Tai Dam
Upland basins of northwestern Vietnam, above all the Black River valley and the Dien Bien plain, with communities in northern Laos, Thailand, southern China and a resettled diaspora in the United States, France and Australia.

Highlands of the former Hà Giang province (now part of Tuyên Quang), northern Vietnam, especially Xín Mần and Hoàng Su Phì; smaller communities in Maguan County, Yunnan, China

Kam
The hill country where eastern Guizhou, western Hunan and northern Guangxi meet in southern China, with small communities in Tuyên Quang Province, Vietnam.
Mulao
Northern Guangxi, China, centered on Luocheng Mulao Autonomous County in Hechi and nearby counties.
