About Chinese Filipino People
Chinese Filipinos (Tsinoy / Tornatras) comprise approximately 1.3% of the Philippine population per the 2020 Census official self-identification — approximately 1.4+ million, with substantially larger broader Chinese-descended population estimated at 4-5+ million when partial-Chinese-ancestry individuals (the historic Spanish-colonial-era Sino-Spanish-Filipino mestizo de sangley plus broader admixed populations) are included. The community is one of the most economically prominent diaspora populations in Southeast Asia. Concentrated in Metro Manila (the Binondo Chinatown — the oldest Chinatown in the world, established 1594), Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, plus other major cities. Predominantly Hokkien-source (Fujian Province, particularly Quanzhou and Zhangzhou prefectures) plus smaller Cantonese-source sub-populations. Cultural traditions include Chinese-Filipino fusion cuisine, the Chinese-Filipino business-oligarchy heritage (substantial portion of Filipino commercial and industrial wealth is held by Chinese-Filipino business families), and the Chinese-Filipino political prominence including the Aquino political family (Corazón Aquino and Benigno Aquino III, both of partial Chinese descent through the Cojuangco family).
