About Mercheros People

Their religion is Catholic, and like most Catholics in the Castilian villages they passed through, they live it mainly through baptisms, weddings and funerals. The institution that really runs things is the family. Marriages traditionally stayed within the community, and networks of extended kin decided the routes, the trades and who owed what to whom.
The turning point came in the mid-twentieth century.
