About Yazidi Armenia People
Yazidis in Armenia comprise approximately 1.2% of the Armenian population — approximately 35,000, the largest ethnic minority. Concentrated in the Aragatsotn and Armavir regions. The Armenian-Yazidi community is the largest national Yazidi population outside of Iraq (~500,000+ Yazidis in Iraq pre-2014 plus diaspora) and Germany (~150,000+ Yazidi diaspora). Yazidis are a Kurdish-speaking ethno-religious group following the syncretic Yazidism religion (incorporating elements of Zoroastrianism, Islamic, Christian, and Jewish traditions plus older Mesopotamian sources). The Armenian Yazidis fled to Armenia in waves from the late 19th c. and early 20th c. Ottoman persecution. Subject to documented genocide by ISIS in 2014 (the Sinjar genocide of Iraqi Yazidis).
