About Wazir People
The Wazir are the Pashtun tribe that gave Waziristan its name. Waziristan is high, broken country of ridges and river valleys on Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. Most Wazir belong to the Darwesh Khel, which splits into two large sections. The Utmanzai hold much of the hill country of North Waziristan, around the Tochi valley, and some of their clans have settled down toward Bannu. The Ahmadzai are centered on Wana in South Waziristan and also live across the border in Afghanistan. Their neighbors the Mahsud trace their line to the same ancestor but see themselves as a separate tribe, and the two have competed over land and influence for generations. Many Wazir families once moved with the seasons, spending winters in the warmer lowlands and taking their flocks up into the hills in summer.

Today the tribe is rebuilding and still arguing with the state over what it is owed.
