That language, Celtiberian, is among the earliest recorded Celtic anywhere and is still only partly understood. Two of their habits are worth knowing. Communities and individuals sealed pacts of hospitality with small bronze tokens, often cut in the shape of an animal or a pair of clasped hands and split into halves that matched only each other, inscribed with the names of the parties.
