What the charters do fix is the neighborhood. The exact stretch of river they held, and which bank, is still argued over. Their legacy is thin but real. Slavic place names thick across the Anhalt countryside mark where their villages stood, and the closest living relatives of whatever they spoke are Upper and Lower Sorbian, still spoken in Lusatia to the southeast. Their descendants, if the word applies, are simply the German-speaking people of the middle Elbe today.
