About Severians People
The Severians were an East Slavic tribe who lived from about the eighth to the eleventh century along the Desna, Seym and Sula rivers, in what is now northeastern Ukraine and the adjoining Russian borderland around Kursk and Bryansk. The Primary Chronicle has Oleg of Novgorod taking them from the Khazars in the 880s on lighter terms, after which they formed the core of what became the Chernihiv principality. Their last recorded act is at the Battle of Listven in 1024, when Mstislav of Chernihiv put them in the center of his line against his brother's Varangians. They held, and the Varangians broke.
