About Indo-Grenadian People

Indo-Grenadians comprise approximately 2.9% of the Grenadian population per the 2011 Central Statistical Office census — descendants of approximately 3,200 British-Indian indentured laborers brought to Grenada between 1857 and 1885 to support post-emancipation sugar and cocoa plantation labor (smaller-scale than the Trinidadian or Guyanese indentured-labor flows but historically significant for Grenada's small population). Source populations were predominantly Bhojpuri-speaking Bihari and UP migrants. The community has integrated substantially with the broader Grenadian population while maintaining some distinct cultural elements.
