About Digor People
The Digor are one of the two halves of the Ossetian people, and the line between them and the Iron majority is drawn first in speech. Both speak Ossetian, the only surviving language of the Scythian and Sarmatian branch of Iranian, left behind in a Caucasus of Turkic, Circassian, Nakh and Kartvelian neighbors. Digor is the conservative half. Soviet policy treated Digor distinctness as a problem, abolished the Digor literary standard in 1937 and broke the writers who defended it. The standard came back, and North Ossetia's constitution now names Iron and Digor together as the state language. Most Digor call themselves Ossetians. They also call themselves Digoron, and see no contradiction in it.
