About Limbu People

Limbus comprise approximately 1.4% of the Nepalese population — approximately 395,000, concentrated in eastern Nepal hills (the Limbuwan region: Panchthar, Ilam, Taplejung, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta districts). Tibeto-Burman / Kirat language family. Predominantly the distinct Yakthung Mundhum religious tradition (the Limbu indigenous religion) plus Hindu and Buddhist sub-populations. The Limbu writing system (Sirijanga script) is one of the few South Asian Indigenous writing systems.
