About Khas Arya People

Khas Arya populations comprise approximately 31% of the Nepalese population per the 2021 Census — the dominant Hindu Indo-Aryan-language-speaking ethnic-caste umbrella, historically the politically dominant group through the unification of Nepal under Prithvi Narayan Shah in the 18th c. and the post-1990 democratic period. The umbrella aggregates Chhetri (Kshatriya warriors, ~16.5% of national population), Bahun (Hill Brahmin priest-scholars, ~11.3%), Thakuri (the historic royal-aristocratic caste, ~1.0%), Sanyasi/Dasnami (~0.9%), and various Khas-related sub-castes. The Khas language (proto-Nepali) developed into modern Nepali, the national language of Nepal. Concentrated in the central and western Nepal hills (the Kathmandu Valley periphery, Pokhara, Western Hills). Genome-wide studies place Khas Arya populations as showing substantial Steppe-pastoralist-derived ancestry consistent with broader Northwestern Indian Indo-Aryan populations.

Typical Khas Arya Phenotypes

Reference for AI generation — hair, eyes, skin, facial structure, build

Skin tone is predominantly Fitzpatrick III-IV with III-IV the modal value — among the lighter-skinned Nepalese populations, similar to Northern Indian Hindi-belt populations. Hair texture is most often straight to wavy (Andre Walker 1A-2B), uniformly black to very dark brown. Facial features track Northern Indian Indo-Aryan source populations: epicanthic-fold variants present at low frequency (rarer than in Tibeto-Burman Nepalese populations), taller-and-narrower nasal bridges, fuller lips, oval face shapes. Eye color is predominantly brown with elevated frequencies of hazel and rarely lighter variants. Build is intermediate; adult Khas Arya male mean stature is approximately 165-168 cm in 2010s-2020s cohorts.
