219 positions: the pose catalog's crosswalk now covers every named position

115 positions join the crosswalk that maps each named position into the tag vocabularies image models were trained on, with a written statement of what each mapping loses. The open dataset carries the whole set.

The pose catalog names 219 positions. Until this month only 104 of them were mapped into the folksonomy tags that open image models know; the other 115 had no bridge from their name to a tag.

The crosswalk now covers all 219. Every mapping says what it discards, because most tags are broader than the position they stand for: the missionary tag alone now stands for 27 catalog positions, and the statement for each says which feature the tag cannot express.

The open pose dataset was refreshed on October 20 with the full set: 219 positions, 493 keypoint templates, 339 crosswalk rows, 88 provenance links and the 87 attested artworks.

Under the hood

  • Each new mapping was written against the tag's live definition and checked by a second pass that compared the statement to the position's own geometry; statements that claimed no tag where a sibling position had one were rewritten.
  • The knowledge-base side of the crosswalk anchors a position to its Wikidata item only where the item describes the same arrangement; a candidate whose article described a different arrangement was left unanchored rather than guessed.
  • The historical names layer grew with the positions: the attested names from the manuals and the art traditions now join 85 positions to their sources.
  • The crosswalk, the action layer and the context axes are regenerated from the same source files as the site, so the dataset and the pages cannot drift apart.
