The pose catalog and the body atlas in Portuguese and Russian

Two more languages join the site: the 219 positions, the six pose reference pages, the 31 atlas pages and the home page now read in Portuguese and Russian under their own addresses.

  • Catalog
  • Poses

The pose catalog and the body atlas are now published in Portuguese and Russian, the fourth and fifth languages after French, German and Spanish. Each language has its own home page and its own address for every position and atlas page.

Russian addresses are written in Latin letters by a fixed transliteration, so a Russian page's URL carries no encoding and reads the same everywhere. The missionary position is /ru/pozy/missionerskaya-poza; the eyes page of the atlas is /ru/atlas/glaza.

Every English pose and atlas page lists its five translations, and every translation lists the others, so a reader or a search engine landing on any one of them can reach the rest.

Under the hood

  • The site's locale layer is a table of section words and a publish list per language. Adding a language is two rows in that table and the seeds for its text; the routes, the sitemap, the language chooser and the alternate links follow from it.
  • The transliteration is a documented letter table with digraphs, applied by the same slug rule the other languages use, so the slug for a Russian name is a function of the name and nothing else.
  • Names, headings and slugs were translated in one pass and prose in another, the two kinds checked separately; each section's pages publish only when every text they need is present.
  • Two positions share one name in both languages and wait for an editor to give one of them a distinct slug.
