Waves 4a and 4b took the catalog past 4,000 peoples pages. On September 20 it stood at 4,076, up from 1,710 at the start of the month.
Wave 4a published 759 pages by September 17. Wave 4b opened with 105 historical peoples, then published its living peoples in rounds through September 20.
The site does not publish a people under a name they reject as an insult. The check reads each page's own authored text, and a name that text describes as an insult is held for review.
Under the hood
- Documentation depth sets the order: each wave reaches further down the Wikidata sitelink ranking into less-documented peoples, and within a wave pages publish in sitelink order.
- Language reach: 127 of wave 4b's candidates that passed review stand on a non-English Wikipedia edition, including French 38, Russian 25, Indonesian 14, Spanish 13, German 10, Portuguese 7 and Italian 6.
- The pre-publish screen runs every class with a known positive control that must fire: twins of live pages, twins inside the wave, and candidates sharing a Wikipedia article with an earlier wave. Every page publishes with its phenotype profile in place.
- The insult check reads context rather than matching words. Where the insult belongs to an older outside name, or where a people took the name up with pride, as the Chaldons did, the page publishes.
- Historical peoples pass the same living-community test as in wave 1. A historical people whose descendants were absorbed into another community is the normal case, and it publishes.
